Media Literacy Seminar Set Tomorrow

The Negros Press Club (NPC), in partnership with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will hold a Media Literacy Seminar tomorrow, Aug. 16 at L’Fisher Chalet in Bacolod City.

About 130 participants from mainstream media in Bohol, Dumaguete City, Metro Manila, Iloilo and Bacolod, as well as information officers from different local government units in Negros Occidental and national agencies, Mass Communication students, and local bloggers are expected to attend the seminar.

NPC President Renato Duran said the objective of the seminar is to boost better understanding and appreciation on the complex and critical role of the media especially among members of the NPC.

“It is also geared towards enhancing the capabilities of the participants representing various fields of communication as well as converging them to share ideas and practices in fulfilling the true essence of news and information,” Duran added.

Invited speakers for the seminar are ABS-CBN news anchor and reporter Alvin Elchico and Philippine Press Institute (PPI) Executive Director Ariel Sebelleno.

They will talk about ethical standards on news reporting, including the internet (social media) and detecting fake news, respectively.*
